Free agent Pedro Alvarez signed a one-year contract on Tuesday with the Baltimore Orioles, according to mlb.com.
The Pirates’ former second-overall pick reportedly signed for $5.75 million with up to $1.5 million more in incentives.
Alvarez hit .243 with a team-leading 27 home runs last season. The Pirates declined to offer Alvarez a contract for 2016 and he walked away as a free agent. His contract would have been approximately $8 million.
With the addition of Alvarez, the Orioles now have six players who have hit 30 or more home runs in a single season on their roster.
